Nexus Studio vs BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, LambdaTest, QA Wolf and Checkly.
Five platforms teams use to run Playwright tests, next to Nexus Studio. What each one is, where your tests run, what the entry plan costs and how many tests it runs at once. Every price was read on 2026-10-13 from the vendor's own page, linked below.
The short answer
BrowserStack, Sauce Labs and LambdaTest rent you browsers and devices in their cloud, and you pay for each session that runs at once. QA Wolf runs and, if you buy the service, writes your tests for you. Checkly runs Playwright tests on a schedule as production monitors. Nexus Studio is different in one way: it runs on machines you control, and it is priced per machine, never per parallel run.
The six side by side
Entry price means the cheapest paid plan that runs automated browser tests. Prices are in US dollars, list price, before tax.
| Platform | Where your tests run | Entry price, read on 2026-10-13 | Tests at once | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nexus Studio | On machines you control: your PC, a mini PC, Docker or a Linux server over SSH. | Individual plan, 1 machine, every feature: USD 79 a month or USD 790 a year. | No charge per user, per test or per parallel run. Speed depends on your machine. | Pricing |
| BrowserStack Automate | BrowserStack's cloud, on 3,500+ desktop and mobile browser combinations. | Desktop & Mobile: USD 175 a month billed annually, which is USD 2,100 a year. | 1 parallel test at that price. More cost more, with volume discounts. | browserstack.com/pricing |
| Sauce Labs | Sauce Labs' cloud: desktop browsers, emulators and simulators. | Virtual Device Cloud: USD 149 a month billed annually, which is USD 1,788 a year, or USD 199 month to month. | 1 parallel test at that price. Plans go from 1 to 5 concurrent sessions. | saucelabs.com/pricing |
| LambdaTest (its price page is headed TestMu AI) | LambdaTest's cloud: Windows, macOS and Linux browsers. | Web Automation on Desktop: USD 79 a month billed annually. A Linux-only plan is USD 29 a month billed annually. | Not stated in the page text we read. Check the plan on its page. | lambdatest.com/pricing |
| QA Wolf | QA Wolf's infrastructure, in containers it runs for you. | Platform: USD 0.15 per runner minute plus USD 0.01 per AI credit. The managed service is quoted, with no public price. | Unlimited parallel runs, billed by the minute. | qawolf.com/pricing |
| Checkly | Checkly's cloud, or your own infrastructure with Private Locations. | Starter: USD 24 a month billed annually. Team: USD 64 a month billed annually. A free Hobby plan exists. | Runs on a schedule as monitors. Plans include a set number of check runs a month. | checklyhq.com/pricing |
Prices change and some plans are negotiated, so check the vendor's page before you decide. These are list prices of the entry plan, not a quote for your workload. Nexus Studio does not rent you machines, so it has no hardware to add to the cloud figures: you supply the machine. The cost calculator works out when a mini PC of your own pays for itself. Nexus Studio is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any company named here. All product names belong to their owners.
When another platform is the better choice
Each of these does something Nexus Studio does not set out to do.
BrowserStack
Pick it when you must cover thousands of browser, operating system and device combinations, or test on physical iPhones and iPads. Nexus Studio runs Chromium, Firefox and WebKit as Playwright ships them, and real Android phones over USB.
Sauce Labs
Pick it when you want a hosted grid with emulators, simulators and physical devices, and enterprise analytics from the same vendor. Nexus Studio has no cloud runners.
LambdaTest
Pick it when you want a low-cost hosted grid to run Selenium or Playwright across Windows, macOS and Linux without owning a machine.
QA Wolf
Pick it when you want a vendor to build and maintain your end-to-end tests and investigate every failure. Nexus Studio gives your team the tools and the evidence, and your team keeps the work.
Checkly
Pick it when the job is monitoring production around the clock from several regions with alerting built in. Nexus Studio schedules suites with Watch on your own machines, and alerts only when a state changes.
Where Nexus Studio differs
Three things the five above do not do the same way.
Your tests and evidence stay on your machines
Tests, results and evidence live on disks you own. The only connection the Studio makes on its own is the license check. Own your infrastructure
14 verdicts instead of pass or fail
A real defect is told apart from a slow network, a bot challenge or a crashed browser. A retry that passes is FLAKY, never a quiet pass. The 14 verdicts
One price per machine
No charge per user, per test or per parallel run. Your tests stay standard Playwright, Selenium and pytest files, so there is nothing to migrate out of.
Questions
Is Nexus Studio an alternative to BrowserStack?
For teams that run Playwright or Selenium tests and want them to run on their own machines, yes. For teams that need a catalog of thousands of browser and device combinations, no. Nexus Studio has no cloud runners.
Can I run Playwright tests without a cloud grid?
Yes. Playwright runs locally, in Docker or on a Linux server. Nexus Studio adds the recorder, scheduled runs, verdicts and evidence on top, and runs on Windows 11 with 16 GB of RAM as the minimum.
Does Nexus Studio lock my tests in?
No. The Nexus Recorder writes standard Playwright or Selenium code, and the files are yours to read, edit and keep.
How much does Nexus Studio cost?
The Individual plan is USD 79 a month or USD 790 a year for 1 machine, with every feature. Team and Business plans cover more machines. See pricing
When is Nexus Studio not the right fit?
When you do not work on Windows, need physical iPhones, need hundreds of browser combinations, or want someone else to host the runs. The full list
